LA Judge Denies Bond For Ex-Celebrity Spy
LOS ANGELES (CBS/AP) — A Los Angeles judge Monday rejected bond for ex-Hollywood private investigator Anthony Pellicano, who is serving a 15-year prison sentence for spying on celebrities.
Pellicano was convicted in 2008 on charges of felony racketeering, conspiracy and wiretapping for bugging the phones of celebrities and other well-known entertainment figures in order to get information for his clients.
His clients included comedian Chris Rock, and he targeted celebs such as Sylvester Stallone, Garry Shandling and Kevin Nealon.
Attorney Stephen Gruel asked U.S. District Judge Dale Fischer to release Pellicano from prison while he awaits an appeal on two racketeering counts.
Gruel said his client is in poor health and suffering from a severe eye ailment.
However, prosecutors said Pellicano remains a flight risk and a danger to society.
