LA Homeless Stabbings Suspect Faces Mental Evaluation Hearing
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Attorneys for the Los Angeles man accused of stabbing three homeless people while they slept asked to have him evaluated Monday to find out if he's psychologically fit to stand trial.
Courtney Anthony Robinson, 37, is charged in the July 3 attack on a 56-year-old man at Third and Main streets in downtown Los Angeles, a man stabbed July 17 on a bus bench along Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica and a homeless woman stabbed July 19 in Hollywood.
In every incident, Robinson allegedly left a knife in the victims and written "death warrants" that were either written or typed out by him, signed with the alias David Ben Keyes.
Robinson called 911 and surrendered to police July 20 after seeing his face on "wanted" fliers in Los Angeles.
He admitted signing the notes left at the crime scenes, according to police.
Robinson pleaded not guilty July 25.
His mental competency status hearing is Aug. 20.
