LA County Sheriff's Dept. Deputy Killed In Car Crash
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputy was killed Thursday when the car he was driving crashed on the southbound I-15 Freeway in San Bernardino.
Deputy David L. Nelson, 55, died at the scene of the crash, which happened at about 3:45 a.m. south of Kenwood Avenue, the sheriff's department reported.
The 22-year-veteran was assigned to the Court Services Bureau and lived in Victorville.
Nelson was driving a 2003 Toyota Camry when his car "for unknown reasons traveled onto the right shoulder, where the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck the dirt embankment," according to California Highway Patrol.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
