As Trump Alleges Election Is 'Rigged,' LA County Registrar Says Safeguards Against Voter Fraud Are In Place
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Even as Donald Trump fuels voters' concerns that the election could be "rigged" against him, Los Angeles County Registrar Dean Logan says there are numerous safeguards in place to protect the integrity of the vote.
He spoke to CBS2's Jeff Nguyen about why voters should feel confident in the system.
For one, ballots are transported from polling places to the Registrar's office by the Sheriff's Department -- and vote tallying equipment is not connected to the internet, to prevent hacking.
Each county and state runs its own system, he added, meaning a nationwide hack would be far from easy to conduct.
"It means there is no single point of interference for someone who wanted to disrupt the elections process, especially on a national level, could do that," LA County Registrar Dean Logan said.
Los Angeles County is the largest and most complex county election jurisdiction in the country, he added, since it has more than 500 political districts and five million registered voters.
The last day to register to vote in California is Oct. 24.
