LA County Fair Opens Friday
POMONA (CBSLA.com) — The LA County Fair opens Friday with new animal exhibits, rides, games, and of course, a huge variety of food.
The fair opens Friday at 3 p.m., just in time for the long Labor Day weekend, at the Fairplex in Pomona, 1101 W. McKinley Avenue, and runs through Sept. 30. Fair organizers say it's the earliest opening date ever and its 90th year.
Every year, the food is a huge draw at the fair, and organizers are prepared to whet every appetite. Besides the usual fried fare from longtime fair standbys like Chicken Charlie, the fair will offer the Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Marketplace.
For the children, the fair is unveiling its Stingray Island exhibit, a 17,000-gallon enclosure featuring an 8-foot waterfall, stingrays, sharks, octopus, eels and more. The fair's Capuchin monkey, Mojo, will guide attendees through Mojo's African Safari and introduce them to zebras, a capybara, a coatiemundi, African porcupines, snakes, lizards and more.
Opening weekend admission is $1, and food, drinks, rides and games are deeply discounted on opening day. General admission is $12 for adults on weekdays and $17 for weekends; children ages 6-12 are $7 on weekdays and $12 on weekends, and children 5 and under are free. Seniors will be admitted for $9 on weekdays and $14 on weekends.
