LA County Democrat: Investigate 'Super Macho' Schwarzenegger

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A local Democratic party leader is calling for an investigation into the latest revelations about California's former governor.

KNX 1070's Charles Feldman reports the top Democrat in the county is calling for the Fair Political Practice Commission to take a closer look into just how Arnold Schwarzenegger paid for child support during his time in office.

"This woman and this child had to be taken care of, there had to be ways to keep the public from finding out, and I certainly would like to know if campaign funds or state resources were used," said Eric Bauman, chairman of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party.

Bauman said the affair was only the private consequence of a very public persona that Schwarzenegger has been fostering since his first campaign for governor.

"Here's a guy who, during the course of his first run for governor, was very dismissive and very aggressive with women who came forward and made accusations about him," Bauman said.

The Democratic leader emphasized he was not accusing Schwarzenegger of any wrong-doing, but that "the people have a right to know" if public funds were used for expenses in the governor's private life.

In the end, however, Bauman stressed that the true victims in this case are Schwarzenegger's estranged wife Maria and their children.

"I have great sympathy for Maria and the governor's children, and I also have great sympathy for this woman, who has now been identified and the child that stems from it," Bauman said.

"Quite frankly, none of this had to happen, but for the fact that we had a super-macho governor who couldn't behave himself," he added.
