LA County Coroner To Investigate Why 16-Year-Old Football Player Died

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — The LA County Coroner's office said Sunday that they have opened an investigation to determine what killed a 16-year-old high school football player.

Dodi Soza, who played on the Downey High School junior varsity team, collapsed during a game at Lynwood High School last week.

Soza died Saturday at Long Beach Memorial Hospital.

Coroner's Lt. Cheryl MacWillie said her office has yet to take possession of Soza's body.

Federal privacy laws prohibit the release of the time or cause of death, said hospital spokeswoman Rochele Steele.

Los Angeles County Fire Department Paramedics arrived within five minutes and transported him to St. Francis Medical Center.

Soza was later taken to Long Beach Memorial and examined by a brain injury specialist.
