LA City Ordinance Requiring Porn Actors To Wear Condoms Goes Into Effect Monday

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — An ordinance mandating adult video stars to wear condoms on shoots in the city of Los Angeles goes into effect Monday.

The measure, which was backed by Los Angeles-based AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), was signed into law on Jan. 24.

Details regarding implementing the "City of Los Angeles Safer Sex In The Adult Film Industry Act" are still being worked out, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Meantime, supporters of a similar measure for Los Angeles County continue to collect signatures in order to get the initiative on the November 2012 ballot.

If passed, the measure would require adult film producers to obtain a public health permit and pay a permit fee that would cover the cost of enforcement, the AHF says.

On its website, the organization reports that backers have gotten over 120,000 signatures -- that's more than half of the signatures needed.

The adult film industry opposes the measure, saying it conducts extensive testing and performers should be able to choose whether they use condoms.
