LA Board Of Supervisors Vote To Lift Hard-Hitting Hiring Freeze On County Departments
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted Monday to lift a hard-hitting 2009 hiring freeze that affected almost every department in the county.
KNX 1070's Megan Goldsby reported that L.A. County CEO William Fujioka said there is more wiggle room in the budget than the county has seen in years.
"We're in the position right now where we have a zero deficit," he said.

Fujioka, however, wanted to leave the ban in place in the sheriff's and probation departments, which didn't sit well with Supervisor Michael Antonovich.
"To deny the sheriff and probation to bring on the necessary personnel to protect our community is critical," said Antonovich.
Ultimately, the supervisors lifted the freeze on those two agencies, as well.
Supervisor Gloria Molina wanted to make sure the county wasn't writing the sheriff a blank check.
"He's sort of like that child who gets an allowance and at the end of the day, he overspends it. And he says, 'Hey, so what? They'll make me whole at the end of the week,'" she said.
Monday's vote also made sure that any future hiring freezes would need to be approved by the board.
