LA Airport Police Sergeant Arrested On Suspicion Of Child Abuse

HAWTHORNE (CBSLA.com) — A 42-year-old Los Angeles Airport Police sergeant was arrested on suspicion of child abuse after allegedly using a belt on his 11-year-old son, Hawthorne police announced Thursday.

Robert Muhammad was taken into custody March 19. He was released the next day after posting $5,000 bond.

Investigators learned about the reported abuse from the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, Hawthorne police Lt. Aimee Yoshida said.

Authorities confirmed Muhammad's son had belt marks on his body, according to Yoshida.

Muhammad has been placed on leave pending an investigation, Los Angeles Airport Police Sgt. Belinda Nettles said.
