L.A. To Shut Down 9 Miles Of City Streets For 5th CicLAvia
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Run, walk, skate, bike – just don't drive – to L.A.'s fifth CicLAvia this Sunday.
The city of Los Angeles will close 9.1 miles of street to cars so that Angelenos will be able to stroll, bike, play and interact with their neighbors beyond their car windows.
City officials say this year's CicLAvia route will be a grand tour of some of the city's best attractions, including the newly completed Grand Park in the Civic Center, Chinatown, Exposition Park and Pershing Square.
"Angelenos are aching for a day without a car, and CicLAvia gives us just that," Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said in a statement.
Each of the six CicLAvia hubs – where people gather to enjoy planned events – is easily accessible by a Metro rail station. CicLAvia organizers are especially eager for Westside residents to take advantage of the recently opened Metro Expo line to join in the festivities.
