KNX1070: Ex-Beverly Hills Surgeon Suspected In Patient's Death Arrested For Fraud, Burglary
BEVERLY HILLS (CBSLA.com) — Ehab Mohamed was once riding high, charging patients hundreds of thousands of dollars for cosmetic surgery at his Beverly Hills office.
Everything changed, however, when a female patient who underwent an all-day liposuction procedure in Mohamed's office died on the table in 2010, prompting the Los Angeles District Attorney's office to open a criminal investigation that's still ongoing.
He also, according to a KNX investigation, lied about his credentials.
Mohamed, an Egyptian native, was arrested and convicted on charges of trying to sell medical equipment he did not own and served a prison sentence. He was also detained by U.S. Immigration after it was discovered that he had overstayed his visa, KNX 1070's Charles Feldman reports.
Former Beverly Hills Cosmetic Surgeon Arrested Again
Mohamed was recently released from federal custody after an immigration judge decided he could not be deported back to Egypt.
Now, he has been arrested again, KNX has learned, on suspicion of commercial burglary and fraud, allegedly trying to open a bank account using a fictitious cashier's check, according to Sgt. Richard Lewis of the Santa Monica Police Department.
Mohamed is being held without bail because he has also been placed on an immigration hold, according to Lewis.
KNX has also learned that Mohamed recently surrendered his medical license to the state's medical board admitting that "his ability to practice medicine safely is impaired due to mental and physical disability which affect competency," according to medical board documents.
