KNX 1070: 9/11 Anniversary Coverage
KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO has extensive 9/11 anniversary coverage planned with the highlight being KNX's Charles Feldman reporting live from New York starting next Thursday and continuing through Monday, September 12th. Charles is uniquely qualified to be our lead reporter for the 10th anniversary as he reported from New York after a bomb went off in the first terrorist attack on New York's World Trade Center in 1993 and he was there again to report on the aftermath of the 9/11/2001 terrorist attacks.
CBSLA Special Section: Memories of 9/11: Charles Feldman
Beginning next Wednesday on KNX 1070 Newsradio we'll have a number special series reports and interviews throughout the day. These are just a few of the highlights:
Communications breakdown: 10 years after 9/11--and after spending tens of millions of dollars--an interconnected, wireless voice and data communications system to allow the various police, fire and ambulances services in LA County to talk to one another in the event of a massive terrorist attack, remains an expensive pipe dream that has yet to get off the drawing board and still has no set completion date! (KNX's Charles Feldman reports)
The Business of 9/11: Southern California companies making security equipment have benefited--even the prestigious USC has reaped a small government paid fortune, hosting new center that analyzes terrorism. By 2006, more was spent world-wide on counter terrorism than the combined revenue of the movie and music industries. (KNX's Charles Feldman)
Safer now than we were pre-9/11? KNX's Pete Demetriou takes a look at border enforcement. Ron Kilgore focuses on our ever-important ports. Security's tighter now. What's planned for the future?
How much is too much? Have we been scared silly by the 9/11 terrorist attacks---spending more and more money for homeland security devices and systems that may or may not be worth it? And, exactly how does one determine whether spending so much pays off? (KNX's Charles Feldman)
9/11 Justice In A Time of Terror: A series from CBS News Senior Legal Analyst Andrew Cohen on how the 9/11 terror attacks changed the law and affected the everyday lives of people.
The CBS Radio Network will also provide special reports for the week leading up to 9/11 from correspondents Cami McCormick, Peter Maer, Steve Knight and Heather Bosch who will look at the sites of the attacks and the people affected by the events ten years ago..
Day of 9/11/11
5:30-6:30 AM We'll join live CBS Radio Network coverage of the memorial ceremony in New York. Correspondent Steve Kathan will anchor the coverage from our CBS Radio News headquarters overlooking Ground Zero. The New York ceremony will pause at six moments – twice to mark the times that each plane hit the towers, twice to mark the time when each tower fell and to mark the moments of the attacks on the Pentagon and on Flight 93. The first moment of silence will be at 8:46 AM, and houses of worship have been asked to toll their bells at that time. KNX 1070 Newsradio coverage will continue with Dick Helton and Bob Brill anchoring. They'll be bringing in Charles Feldman from the CBS Radio News headquarters overlooking Ground Zero, Jon Baird, who will be flying that morning and Pete Demetriou, Ed Mertz, Vytas Safroncikas who will cover various LA area memorial events.
