Ducks Edge Kings In OT On Rakell's Goal

ANAHEIM (AP) — Rickard Rakell scored with 19 seconds remaining in overtime, and the Anaheim Ducks defeated the Los Angeles Kings 2-1 on Friday night.

Nick Ritchie also scored and John Gibson saved 28 shots for the Ducks, who are 6-1-1 in their last eight games. Ondrej Kase had two assists.

Drew Doughty had a goal and Jonathan Quick made 31 saves for the Kings, who went 2-0-3 in the season series against their Freeway Faceoff rivals.

Los Angeles is one point ahead of Anaheim for third place in the Pacific Division. The Ducks have four games remaining while the Kings have three, but Los Angeles would hold the tiebreaker if the two teams finish with the same number of points because it has more wins in regulation and overtime.

Rakell's 32nd goal came on a shot from the right circle over Quick's shoulder. Brandon Montour and Kase had the assists after a wide-open overtime where both teams had numerous chances to end the game.

The Kings took a 1-0 lead on Doughty's goal at 6:01 of the first, his first tally since March 10. Doughty's shot from the right circle fluttered in after Gibson could not squeeze the puck under his left arm.

Anze Kopitar had an assist, becoming the eighth Kings player with 90 points in a season and the first to do so since Wayne Gretzky in 1993-94.

Dustin Brown had the secondary assist to set a new career-high with his 33rd, topping the 32 he had in 2009-10 and 2011-12.

The Ducks turned up the pressure after falling behind, forcing Quick to come up with difficult saves on shots by Ryan Kesler and Rickard Rakell. Anaheim had 16 shots in the period to 10 for Los Angeles.

Ritchie tied the game with 3:05 left in the second period. Ritchie scored his second goal in four games on a backhand after Quick saved Francois Beauchemin's initial shot.

Corey Perry twice found himself in position to score in the third period, but he failed to get his stick on a potential one-timer and put another shot over the net. Adrian Kempe and Tanner Pearson each had good looks saved by Gibson in the closing minute of regulation.
