Kings 1 Win Away From 1st Ever Stanley Cup After Crushing Devils In Game 3
LOS ANGELES (CBS) -- The Los Angeles Kings are just one win away from claiming the franchise's first Stanley Cup title and ending 45 years of hockey futility, after crushing the New Jersey Devils 4-0 on Monday night to take a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven Stanley Cup Final.
Los Angeles scored twice against Devils goalie Martin Brodeur in the second period on goals by Alec Martinez and Anze Kopitar, and after each goal, the raucous Staples Center crowd chanted, "Marty, Marty."
The Kings even got their power-play working in the third, on goals by Jeff Carter and Justin Williams.
Meanwhile, the Devils just couldn't figure out how to get one past Jonathan Quick, who stopped 22 shots and has now saved 454 pucks on 478 attempts this postseason.
The Kings are now 15-2 this postseason, and are on the verge of tying Wayne Gretzky's 1988 Edmonton Oilers for the best postseason run in modern NHL history at 16-2.
Game 4 will be on Wednesday night at the Staples Center.
