Homicide detectives are investigating the fatal shooting of a man Friday night in the Mission Hills neighborhood of the San Fernando Valley.

Officers responded to the 10400 block of Sepulveda Boulevard around 11:15 p.m. for a call about a shooting and found the man being treated by paramedics for a single gunshot wound to the torso, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. They rushed him to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The killer was still at large the following morning, LAPD said in a statement Saturday.

"Detectives canvassed the scene for witnesses and video evidence," the LAPD statement reads. "The investigation revealed that a lone male suspect walked up to the victim in the rear parking lot of this retail location. The lone male suspect shot the male victim and fled the area."

The police department has not released the victim's identity pending notification of next of kin.
