Jury Hears Former Fire Captain's Alleged Murder Confession
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jurors in the murder trial of a former Los Angeles fire captain have heard a recording in which he apparently confesses.
The Los Angeles Daily News says David Del Toro was heard whispering to himself "I killed her" in the recording played Thursday in court.
Defense attorney Joseph Gutierrez argued that the eight-minute clip was taken out of context from a two-hour interview with detectives but the judge allowed it to be played.
Del Toro, a 23-year veteran, is accused of beating and strangling Jennifer Flores at his Eagle Rock home in 2006. Her nude body was found in the street about a mile from his home. Investigators believe she was dragged behind his truck.
The defense says he couldn't have killed her because he had blacked out from drinking.
