Jury Clears California Bus Company In Crash That Killed 2
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A jury has cleared a California bus dealership of liability in a 2010 crash that killed two people and injured several others.
The minibus was carrying a dozen tourists from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon when it drifted off an Arizona highway and rolled over several times.
A lawsuit alleged there probably would have been fewer casualties had the dealer spent $168 to equip the minibus with seatbelts.
But a Los Angeles jury ruled Monday in favor of Carson-based BusWest.
The plaintiff's attorney, David Lira, told City News Service he's disappointed with the verdict, calling it "a blow to public safety."
BusWest sold the vehicle to TBE International Inc. of Industry. That company and others settled their part of the lawsuit before trial for more than $8 million.
