Josh Rubenstein's Weather Forecast (Dec. 10)

STUDIO CITY (CBSLA.com) Look for mellow conditions Wednesday with temperatures once again above average and increasing cloudiness throughout the day.

The next big system is poised to hit the area late Thursday into Friday. So far everything is on track for a decent rain event for Southern Calfiornia.

The rain will begin as light showers on Thursday. By Friday morning, just before and just after sunrise expect some heavy rainfall (up to one inch an hour) to smack the LA area.

This system will bring about four to five hours of heavy rainfall before tapering off to showers for the rest of the day.

This will be more of a traditional winter storm with high winds and the possibility of a thunderstorm. The colder air will help snow levels to drop down to 5,000 feet by the evening with some good accumulation.

Expect rainfall totals in the ballpark of one to two inches in the valleys and basin with up to four inches in foothill communities.

There will be a few stray lingering mountain showers on Saturday morning, but things should dry out for the weekend.

It looks like there is another system that will bring the threat of rain on Monday and Tuesday (this system will not nearly be as potent as the Friday storm).
