A homicide investigation turned into a deadly police shooting after officers tried to take the possible suspect into custody Monday morning.

Officers first received a call for a person with injuries around 2:15 a.m. at a residence on Whistling Swan near Wetstone, according to the Irvine Police Department.

When authorities arrived at the scene, they found one person dead inside the home.

Investigators also found a minivan had crashed into the garage of the home, but it did not appear to be connected to the killing, authorities said. The crash caused a minor gas leak.
