iPads Coming to Mater Dei High School Campus
SANTA ANA (CBS) — Mater Dei High School is taking a new approach to learning. During the upcoming 2011-2012 school year, the school will hand out the Apple iPad to all their students and teachers.
Students will be able to use the iPads to participate in classroom lectures, complete homework assignments, and studying for upcoming exams.
Many private high schools require parents to purchase textbooks their children use in the classroom. According to the Mater Dei website, the school wants to eventually use the iPad to replace these costly textbooks or handouts.
However, the technology is not free. Parents will have to pay a $35 monthly fee to cover warranty, maintenance, and any other expenses.
Mater Dei also wants to provide a place for students to stay organized and access video or audio of lectures. Being run off of the campus Wi-Fi, the iPad could allow teachers to manage homework and classroom assignments, tests, and quizzes.
