Investigation underway after skeletal remains found near Highway 330 in San Bernardino County
Authorities are investigating the discovery of human bones in San Bernardino County over the weekend.
The remains were found on Saturday at around 3:45 p.m., when deputies with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department's Twin Peaks station "were on proactive patrol" in a closed area of Highway 330, according to a statement from the department.
"The bones were later determined to be that of a human," the statement said. "The bones appear to have been in that location for an extended period of time."
Deputies also called the Coroner's Office to the location in order to collect the bones. They will work on identifying the person and the possible cause of death.
While their investigation continues, deputies noted that they do not believe that the person's death is related to the Line Fire, which continues to rage in San Bernardino County after it was ignited by a 34-year-old Nuevo man a little over a week prior to the discovery.
