Suspect who killed innocent driver in crash at end of pursuit in Fontana escapes from police custody
An innocent person was killed when a police chase out of Los Angeles ended in a violent crash in the Inland Empire.
California Highway Patrol officers say they initiated the pursuit for failure to yield. He was initially pulled over for driving at a high rate of speed, but shortly after pulling over to talk with officers they took off, starting the chase.
According to the Fontana Police Department, the incident came to a sudden end at the intersection of Cherry Avenue and Beech Avenue in Fontana. There, a white mini-SUV driven by the suspect plowed into a red Ford Mustang.
SkyCal flew over the intersection, where two heavily damaged cars could be seen. One, a red Ford Mustang, severely damaged the driver's side. A white Jeep was spotted nearby, also suffering from damage to its front end.
Officers say the intersection will be closed for several hours as their investigation continues.
Police tell KCAL News that at least one person was killed in the crash. They have not yet been identified.
After the crash, the suspect jumped out of their car and attempted to run on foot before they were taken into custody by CHP officers.

At around 7 p.m., CHP officers told KCAL News that the suspect somehow escaped their watch at the hospital and has not yet been located. He is believed to be wearing a blue hospital gown and possibly still has one wrist handcuffed.
During a press conference Wednesday evening, CHP identified the suspect as 32-year-old Long Beach man Noe Armando Banuelos.
Two law enforcement helicopters and dozens of ground units could be seen scouring fields, alleys and even a golf course in the area as they searched for the suspect.
