Next Powerball Jackpot Will Hit Staggering $1.3 Billion (At Least)

SACRAMENTO (CBSLA.com) — California Lottery officials announced Saturday that the next Powerball jackpot will soar to $1.3 billion on Wednesday.
At least $1.3 billion. Brisk sales will likely add several hundred thousand dollars to that already staggering sum.
The last time a Powerball jackpot was won in California was back on August 1, 2015. That's when a man named Willie Nelson (not the country singer) correctly picked all six winning numbers and walked away with $110 million before federal taxes.
Since people in 44 states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands are already dreaming big. Get this: When the jackpot soars to $1.3 billion, the lump sum pay out would be $806 million before taxes. Not bad for a $2 investment.
The Powerball jackpot on Saturday reached $949,800,000 at final tally.
Officials told CBS2/KCAL9 after the draw that no one in California had all six numbers. But six people in the state had 5 of the 6 numbers failing to match the Powerball. Those tickets were sold in Orange County, San Bernardino County, the state line and three in Northern California. Each of the lucky six will pocket $779,264 each.
Saturday's $949,800, 000 ackpot was already the largest in US history. The largest previous Powerball jackpot was May 18, 2013 when a single ticket won the $590.5 million prize. The previously largest jackpot in North America was on a $656 million Mega Millions ticket in 2012 won by three people in three different states.
The $1.3 billion jackpot is the world's largest ever, lottery officials said Sunday.
