Huntington Beach Police Warn Residents About Series Of 'Hot Prowl' Burglaries
HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Police warned residents Thursday about a series of "hot prowl" burglaries that have taken place in Orange County in recent weeks.
Huntington Beach police said more than 20 reported incidents of the burglaries, thefts and attempted break-ins have taken place between Jan. 23 and Feb.2 in two area neighborhoods.
"The two neighborhoods being targeted are the Peterson Elementary tract (bounded by Beach Blvd, Indianapolis Ave, Newland St, and Atlanta Ave.) and the Burke School tract (bounded by Bushard St, Indianapolis Ave, Brookhurst St, and Atlanta Ave.)," Lt. O'Brien said in a news release.
All of the incidents have occurred between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. with some of the suspects caught on surveillance entering homes through unlocked side or rear doors, police said.
"All of the car thefts appear to have been to unlocked cars parked on the street, in driveways, or to unlocked cars parked inside unlocked garages," Lt. O'Brien said.
Thieves have stolen a wide arrange of items, but appear to be targeting electronics and cash.
