Huntington Beach Police Officer Shoots And Kills Charging Pit Bull
HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBS) — A Huntington Beach police officer shot and killed a pit bull terrier at the Ocean View Estates Mobile Home Park Thursday.
The officers were responding to a call about transients staying in an abandoned trailer.
Officer arrived at the city-owned mobile home park at 7051 Ellis Ave. about 10:30 a.m., said Huntington Beach police Lt. Russell Reinhart. The officers knocked on the doors and windows, but did not receive a response, Reinhart said.
However, when they entered the abandoned trailer a 100-pound pit-bull reportedly charged at them.
One officer withdrew his service revolver and fatally shot the dog. The officers were uninjured.
A 24-year-old man, who had been arrested in the abandoned trailer about a month ago, was again in the trailer, Reinhart said. The trailer's owner, who lives in Sacramento, told officers the man is his son, Reinhart said.
