Hundreds Turn Out In Long Beach To Take Stand Against Domestic Violence
LONG BEACH (CBS) — Hundreds of people turned out in Long Beach Friday to remember victims of domestic violence and take a stand against the epidemic.
The march was especially poignant in the wake of last week's Seal Beach shooting massacre.
According to the Long Beach Women's Shelter, at least three women are murdered by their spouse or partner every day across the nation.
Although the survivors are different, their stories are similar.
"I didn't think I was going to be able to survive. I imagined myself dead at times," one woman told CBS2.
"He burned our house. Started the fire with my daughter and I in it. He wouldn't let us leave," another survivor said.
The goal of the march was to raise awareness and let victims know they are not alone. October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
