Hundreds Protest Against Police Brutality In 'Rally For Justice' March
SOUTH LA (CBSLA.com) — Hundreds of protestors took to the streets in South Los Angeles on Saturday as part of the 'Rally For Justice' protest against police brutality.
Community leaders say they wanted to send a loud message to local law enforcement on the topic of police brutality in the city.
The mother of Ezell Ford, who was killed by police in 2014, was in attendance, and added her voice to the protest.
"These murderous cops will not get away with killing my son," Tritobia Ford said. "If this does not stop, America, humanity, is doomed."
Ford's killing at the hands of LAPD in August sparked outrage, with friends and family declaring the killing to be unjustified.
The leader of the event, Danny Bakewell, met with LAPD Chief Charlie Beck prior to the march.
"Killing Ezell Ford is something that this community can't tolerate," Bakewell said. "We want that police officer fired and we want him indicted."
The march began in front of LAPD's southwest division, and featured chanting as it progressed down Martin Luther King boulevard and Crenshaw boulevard.
The march ended at Leimert Park.
