House Fire Deemed 'Suspicious' That Killed Toddler In Compton
COMPTON (CBS) — A house fire that claimed the life of a 3-year-old boy is being called "suspicious" Friday.
Los Angeles County sheriff's detectives and an arson unit are investigating the fire that broke out at 835 E. Lennon Street in Compton late Thursday afternoon.
Ivan Buggs was found by firefighters unconscious near a bathroom on the first floor of the home. He was taken to Memorial Hospital of Gardena, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.
The child's 38-year-old mother was upstairs when the fire began and smelled smoke. Officials said she escaped through a sliding door with minor injuries.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
