House Collapses In East Los Angeles
EAST LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A single-family home collapsed Friday night in East Los Angeles.
Los Angeles County fire crews got a call of a downed structure at 519 S. Humphreys Avenue around 8:25 p.m.
Raquel Acuna, who lives nearby, said she heard a strange noise outside of her home.
"My son comes running out of the room and says, 'Mom, the house fell,' and at the same time, we're hearing something dragging at the front of the street. He said, 'The house fell.' So we come outside. The house is all full of dust," she said.
The Urban Search & Rescue Team sent specialized dogs inside the structure to make sure no one was trapped.
"We had a total collapse of this single-family dwelling. The house has been abandoned for a couple of years…to be frequented by some homeless people in the neighborhood. Once we requested those search and rescue dogs, they will clear the house, they search for any kind of scent, then we can clear the house," said Battalion Chief Mike Brown of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
No injuries have been reported.
