Homicide Detectives Trying To Learn Why Driver Was Gunned Down In Inglewood
INGLEWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Homicide detectives in Inglewood are trying to determine why a driver was gunned down early Sunday morning.
The shooting death happened on 109th Street.
KCAL9's Jennifer Kastner says neighbors told her the victim drove for Uber. But she reports part of the mystery involves whether the person killed drove for that company -- police were not saying.
Police say the man was shot to death but there is no explanation as to why.
Outside his home, two more candles were placed in the driveway.
Neighbors said the victim had an Uber sticker on his windshield. But police are being tight-lipped, Kastner reported.
Chris Martinez lives a few homes away from the victim.
"I turned around and I'd say it was like six or seven good shots. And it just woke me up," Martinez said.
The shooting happened around 4 a.m., police said.
Kastner was told officers arrived on scene to find the victim -- a black man -- sitting inside a car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sunday evening, Uber would only say they were looking into whether the victim was one of their drivers or on duty.
The victim has not yet been publicly identified.
Neighbor Rene Tovar said he also heard the man was an on-duty driver for Uber.
"He was trying to make money, you know," Tovar says, "honest money to take care of his family."
If the victim was an Uber driver no one seems to know if he was doing a pick-up or a drop-off or if he knew his shooter or shooters.
"I'm just sorry for his family," said Tovar, "That's all I can say."
Police said they have no information about a suspect, or suspects, but asked if you know anything about this crime to please call them.
