Homicide Detectives Called To Investigate Double Homicide In Chinatown
CHINATOWN (CBSLA.com) — Homicide detectives have been called to Chinatown to investigate a double murder.
The attack took place in the 950 block of N. Broadway, said Stu Mundel reporting in Sky 9.
Police were originally called to a report of shots fired.
On arrival, police found two men -- reportedly both Asian and in their 60s -- stabbed to death, according to CBS2's Rachel Kim who reported from the scene.
The stabbings occurred just inside a shopping center in a recreational center.
The suspect -- described as a man in his 30's -- is at-large, authorities said.
Police told Kim that the suspect got into an argument with one of the older gentlemen. Another gentleman came over to intervene. Both were then stabbed police said. One man died at the scene, the other died after being transported to a hospital.
Richard Liu told Kim he worked two doors down from the incident and knew both victims.
He can't believe they were both murdered.
There are at least two blood hounds on scene tracking the killer.
"All I know is," said Liu, "all the members hang out, and they get fed and they plan Mah Jong. And most are elderly."
It was unclear if the weapon was recovered at the scene.
Asian Gang Detectives were also on scene trying to determine if the crime was organized.
Minutes after 10 p.m., Kim reported that police told her the original fight was over a gambling debt.
