Homeowner Surrenders In Valley Foreclosure Standoff

VAN NUYS (CBS) — A standoff between police and a homeowner reportedly despondent over the recent
foreclosure of his home has ended peacefully.

The man, who had barricaded himself inside his Van Nuys residence early Thursday morning, finally surrendered peacefully to Los Angeles police SWAT units about 5:15 a.m.," said Sgt. Teresa Wilson.

The mortgage meltdown took place at the house in the 14200 block of Weddington Street near the intersection with Tyrone Avenue, began at about 11:30 p.m., according to an officer at the LAPD's Van Nuys Division.

The barricade situation had also resulted in dozens of the man's neighbors being evacuated by the LAPD, according to eyewitness reports.


The news crew at the scene also said that a man who may have been a roommate or renter was taken out of the home by SWAT members.
