Homeless Man Rescued From Island In LA River
GLENDALE (CBSLA.com) — A homeless man was rescued Monday morning after being trapped on an island in the Los Angeles River near Griffith Park.
According to authorities, the man had been living on the island in the flood control channel and got into trouble when the rain water from Monday's storm rose too quickly.
Glendale firefighters and the Los Angeles County Fire Department's Swiftwater Rescue team received the distress call around 5 a.m.
Officials used a zodiac boat and tossed ropes to the man which he tied around a tree, Glendale Fire Spokeswoman Brandy Villanueva said. He was rescued just after 7 a.m.
He was taken to a local hospital for treatment of hypothermia and other injuries. His condition is unknown.
