Homeless Man Charged With Murdering His Drinking Buddy
SANTA ANA (CBS) — A transient was charged today with killing another homeless man — a drinking buddy — he thought stole money from him.
Sergio Camacho Gonzalez, 36, a day laborer who rents rooms in Fullerton and Anaheim when he can afford to, was charged with murder with a sentencing enhancement for using a deadly weapon.
Gonzalez allegedly bludgeoned 56-year-old Andrew Petrusiak, a homeless man from Poland, Fullerton police Sgt. Andrew Goodrich said.
According to prosecutors, Gonzalez took a piece of wood and slammed it into the back of Petrusiak's head.
Petrusiak's body was found just after 8 a.m. Sept. 27 at 1861 W. Commonwealth Ave., in an industrial park near railroad tracks and a strip mall, Goodrich said.
Gonzalez and Petrusiak sometimes hung out and drank together, Goodrich said.
Gonzalez, who was arrested Wednesday night, was being held on $1 million bail. He was scheduled to be arraigned April 22.
