FBI Raids Riverside Home Next Door To Where San Bernardino Terror Suspects Once Lived
RIVERSIDE (CBS/AP) — Neighbors say authorities have raided a home next door to the house where the family of shooter Syed Farook used to live in Riverside.
Maria Gutierrez says she was told to leave her house further down the street at 1:30 a.m. Saturday for safety reasons as authorities swept in with guns drawn.
She says authorities used a megaphone to tell whoever was in the house to come out.
Another neighbor, Lorena Aguirre, says law enforcement broke windows and used a torch to get in the garage.
FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller says agents served a federal search warrant at the house overnight. She declined to discuss what they were looking for or what was recovered.
Farook and his wife Tashfeen Malik killed 14 people and injured 21 others in a rampage in San Bernardino Wednesday.
CBS2's Cristy Fajardo spoke to neighbors in Riverside who were shaken by the early-morning raid.
"I heard 'Residents of 3838 come out with your hands up,'" said one resident.
Amid the sounds of the raid -- loud speakers and barking dogs -- there was a virtual army of officers.
The sight was so hard to believe, Adolfo Agonczillo told Fajardo he started rolling on his cellphone to capture the moment.
"I asked what's going on and they said I can not tell you, go inside," Agonzillo said.
Neighbors told Fajardo that Farook's friend lives in the house and unconfirmed reports said authorities believe the friend may have purchased the assault rifles used in the massacre.
Vincent Gonzales -- who lives directly behind the raided house -- says the FBI used his backyard for the operation and also told him to stay indoors.
"As I come to the window I see military helmets, large guns," Gonzales said.
One man, who only wanted to be identified as Dorian, told Fajardo what happened next.
"They [had people] in handcuffs in the car and I heard them say 'Are there any explosives or anything that might hurt us,?'" Dorian said.
The raid lasted well into the daylight hours.
