Hollywood Teacher Pleads No Contest To Child Porn Charges

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A special education teacher at a Hollywood
middle school pleaded no contest on Monday to a felony charge of possession of child pornography.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Craig Mitchell ordered Barry Klein, 58, to serve three years on probation and to register as a sex offender for life, according to Deputy District Attorney Marc Beaart.

Klein has already completed 10 mandatory counseling sessions, the prosecutor said.

Klein — who had worked at Bancroft Middle School since 2001 — was removed from his post and suspended without pay after the allegation first surfaced in April, according to the Los Angeles Unified School District.

Klein, described earlier this year by Los Angeles police as a longtime San Fernando Valley resident, was charged July 8 with the felony count. LAUSD officials could not be reached for immediate comment on Klein's status with the district following his plea.
