Hit-and-run driver flees scene after crashing into 2 adults, 3 children in Garden Grove
A suspected DUI hit-and-run driver was taken into custody after hitting a family riding bikes in Garden Grove Sunday evening.
The crash happened around 7:30 p.m. in the 12300 block of Haster Street at Twin Tree Lane while a man and a woman were riding electric bikes and pulling three children in bike trailers, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.
All five victims, 27-year-old Angel Ramirez, 25-year-old Angela Hernandez and their three children were taken to the hospital for their injuries after the crash.
Police said a 2003 Toyota Camry drove away from the scene after hitting the family.
"A nearby witness followed the suspect vehicle and notified officers of its whereabouts as it fled the scene of the crash," said Traffic
Investigator John Yergler. "Officers located the vehicle, conducted a traffic stop and detained the driver of the vehicle approximately 1.2 miles from the original collision scene."
On Monday, the mother and their 7-month-old daughter are in stable condition, but the father and two of the children, Jacob, 5, and Gianna, 7, remain in critical condition.
A fundraiser for the family says that the boy has already undergone multiple surgeries and is barely clinging to life.
Authorities said the 29-year-old driver was ultimately taken into custody for a DUI after sobriety tests were done during the traffic stop. He was later identified as Ceferino Ramos of Santa Ana.
SkyCal flew over the spot of the crash, where debris and the wreckage could be seen littering the road.
