High Surf, Strong Currents To Continue Through Tuesday
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — High surf and strong currents will continue along the Southern California coast Tuesday.
The National Weather Service issued high surf advisories through 11 p.m. on Tuesday along the coast of Los Angeles and Orange counties.
Officials warn of dangerous rip currents and waves that will be between five and eight feet high, according to the National Weather Service. Sets could reach 10 feet along some south-facing beaches.
On Sunday, minor flooding took place in Seal Beach, while Orange County lifeguards said they rescued more than a dozen people.
The conditions are a result of a storm in New Zealand.
Officials warn swimmers to be very careful and to stay near a lifeguard.
Residents in Seal Beach, meanwhile, kept an eye on rising tide on Monday night, hoping efforts were enough to keep water from pouring onto their streets.
Crews spent Monday preparing for the tide, which produced an odd pattern that crept onto the beach.
"It was a little surprising at this time of the year to see the water come up so high," resident Suzy Richart said. "It was about ankle-deep up here, and was supposedly coming back up tonight."
Lifeguards had contractors create and extend berms along the beach in an effort to slow the rising tide.
