High Surf Advisory Issued For LA, OC Beaches

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — High surf will continue to pound the coast here in Southern California, meteorologists said Tuesday.

A high surf advisory will be in effect for Los Angeles and Orange counties until 5 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

In Los Angeles County, surf of between 6 and 10 feet, with maximum sets of 12 feet, is expected.

Surf between 3 and 8 feet, with the highest surf located north of Newport Beach, will be visible in Orange County.

Forecasters said the strong surf may create risks of drowning for swimmers due to rip currents.

Beach-goers have been urged to swim near a lifeguard station. If caught in a rip current, swim parallel to shore until you are able to break free.

According to the National Weather Service, there is also a chance for minor flooding and minor beach erosion today.
