High School Tennis Player Who Collapsed After Run Remains In Critical Condition
ORANGE (CBSLA.com) — A student athlete from Orange County remained in critical condition Thursday after collapsing on the tennis court in Anaheim after a run two days ago.
CBS2's Michele Gile says Morgan Wilson, 17, is hospitalized in intensive care at UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange.
Gile reported this stage of her Wilson's fight is critical to her survival. Doctors told her parents Debbie and Scott that the first 48 hours are crucial in recovery.
Friends and family have been continually by her side.
"This shouldn't happen to a 17-year-old girl. Maybe to me," said Scott. "But not to her, in terms of her age, and athleticism and stamina and conditioning. There was nothing abnormal. Nothing that clued us into this. Nothing growing up. Nothing."
He added: "We need prayers."
Morgan Wilson is also a member of Esperanza High School's track team. She's a scholar. Wilson is described as a great friend who has drive on and off the court. They told Gile she is a social butterfly.
Morgan's little sister, Katelyn, is understandably concerned for her sibling.
"I love her. I just want her to wake up from her nap," Katelyn said. "I need her."
Morgan's many friends organized a prayer vigil for her on campus Thursday morning. Signs that say "Pray 4 Morgan" dotted the area.
"There were a lot of people there [at the prayer vigil], and there is a lot of support for her. I'm hoping that she can pull through," said friend Jake Tobin.
"She puts her all into everything. She puts 100 percent no matter what she's doing, and she's compassionate and loving," said friend Kelly Fain.
Wilson's father told Gile that while his daughter "might be down a few sets," he and the family believe Morgan is such a fighter that she will battle her way back to them.
