High Fire Danger Forces Officials To Issue Red Flag Warning
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A Red Flag warning was in effect Monday indicating high fire danger across the region.
A warning for the mountains of Los Angeles and Ventura counties went into effect at 7 p.m. Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. It is expected to expire by 4 p.m. Monday.
A strong ridge of high pressure is continuing its northeasterly direction, bringing with it winds, low humidity and warm temperatures.
Winds gusts are expected to hit 30 to 40 mph, the NWS said.
Los Angeles County fire stations have been staffed with extra personnel and resources, including two super scooper airplanes and a sky crane.
"Wer'e ready for any kind of an incident. We've built up our crews and hopefully rthat's what we need to knock down the fire quickly," Cpt. Scott Salhus said
A major cool down is expected by Thursday with highs in the low to mid 60s through Sunday. Rain is expected on Friday.
