Witnesses Wanted In Fatal Reseda Crash Initially Believed To Be Hit-And-Run

RESEDA (CBSLA.com) — Police are looking for possible witnesses to a fatal crash in Reseda that was initially believed to be a hit-and-run.

The crash happened at 8:45 p.m. Monday at Reseda Boulevard just north of Ingomar Street, Los Angeles police traffic Sgt. Robert White said.

The motorcyclist, who died at a hospital, was identified as Ziyad Riyad O Afandi, 26, of Northridge, coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter said.

Investigators originally thought Afandi had crashed as the result of a collision with a car. But they later determined that there had been no collision and that it was not a hit-and-run case, Los Angeles police Detective Bill Bustos said.

Detectives are hoping that witnesses -- including a motorist in a white four-door sedan that was seen in the area at the time of the crash -- will contact them to help in their investigation into what happened, Bustos said.

No description was released of the driver. Anyone with information can call LAPD Valley Traffic Division detectives at (818) 644-8000, or (877) LAPD-247.
