Helicopter Team Rescues Hiker In Mountains Near Sylmar
SYLMAR (CBS) — A city rescue team took to the air to find a missing hiker who got lost in the mountains above Sylmar Thursday.
Julian Jimenez lost track of his friends during a Thanksgiving outing in the afternoon, according to fire officials.
"I was pretty nervous," Jimenez said. "I thought I was going to die."
Los Angeles city firefighters used a helicopter to locate the man just north of the 14400 block of Olive Drive. He was hoisted to safer ground shortly after 5 p.m., firefighter Shawn Lenkse said.
Jimenez sprained his ankle while trying to find his way back.
"I thought I was going to be back with my family," said Jimenez, shortly after he was rescued. "I thought it was going to be a little hike and back, but we're still here at dark."
