Heavy Security, Police Presence As Students Arrive For First Day At USC
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — As thousands of students move in Wednesday for the new school year, there's heavy security both on and off the USC campus.
After the murders of two graduate students last spring off campus, and the university's adoption of a new safety plan, DPS campus cops are everywhere – in trucks, on scooters and parked at the residence halls, KNX 1070's John Brooks reported.

In addition to the heavy campus security, 30 more LAPD officers were added over the summer to patrol the nearby neighborhoods.
Three thousand incoming freshmen and their parents were busy Wednesday, lugging in computers, suitcases and guitars.
"You don't know where you are, you don't know what you're supposed to be doing, but you have a lot of energy, so you're running around with all this energy and nowhere to really go with it," one student said.
Wednesday is also back to school day for upper classmen as well.
Move In Day kicks off a week's worth of activities, including a concert, a carnival and a rally.
