Heavenly Trio Form Rare Triple Conjunction In Skies Above LA

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A celestial trio made a rare appearance in the skies above Southern California over the weekend.

The planets Jupiter and Venus joined the Moon on Saturday night to form a triangle that was visible in the night sky on Saturday, Feb. 25 and Sunday, Feb. 26.

Astronomers call this type of alignment a "triple conjunction" -- a threesome of bodies coming together in the same plane of sight that gives the illusion of being extremely close to one another.

And if you missed this weekend's alignment, keep looking up: there will be another stellar show on March 14 when Jupiter and Venus will be within three degrees of each other.
