Health Officials Warn About Measles Exposure At 2 Separate Locations
SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — Health officials are warning the public about possible measles exposure at two sites in San Bernardino as well as a school campus.
Authorities said the outbreak is associated with the recent rash of cases that stemmed from Disneyland and California Adventure Park in December 2014.
Officials believe the public was possibly exposed to measles at two locations in San Bernardino frequented by many people:
•Montclair Plaza, 5060 E. Montclair Plaza Lane, Montclair, on Jan. 16 between 2-5 p.m.
•Harkins Theater, 3070 Chino Ave., Chino Hills, 10:30 p.m. Jan. 17 to 1:30 a.m. Jan. 18
Measles is contagious from approximately four days before the rash first appears through four days after the rash appears.
At least four cases have been reported in San Bernardino County.
Officials want to remind the public that if you believe you have been exposed to the measles, visit a health care provider but not without first notifying them of your potential exposure.
KCAL9's Bobby Kaple reported from outside the Harkins Theater on Friday evening.
The potential exposure to measles didn't seem to affect business. He said many people were lined up to buy ticket.
Kaple asked theater management if any extra precautions were taken but he said they declined comment.
Moviegoer Evan Ennabe wasn't going to let a measles scare wreck his entertainment plans.
"This is the first I'm hearing about it," he said, "So, it's kind of alarming, but I'd still go to Disneyland, I'd still go to the theaters."
Meanwhile, at Cal State CI (Channel Islands), KCAL9's Brittney Hopper reported officials are concerned after a student there contracted measles.
In the 14 years Dr. Gregory Sawyer has been Vice President of Student Affairs at the school, he says he's never known of a student getting the measles. Until now, that is.
"Any classrooms where that person may have been. Restrooms, we are taking precautions regarding extra cleaning," he said.
The risk is believed to be limited to people who had direct contact with the student -- specifically the library, bell tower and Del Norte Hall.
