Have A Laugh And Raise Money For Nancy's Tree

STUDIO CITY (CBS) — Have a laugh and help raise money for cancer treatment.

Comdian ANT stopped by the KCAL9 studios Monday to talk about a fundraiser for Nancy's Tree.

On April 29 a public fundraiser will be held from 2-5 p.m. at Miau Haus Studios, 1201 South La Brea, to raise money for long time area locals Jay and Nancy Westbrook. In addition to ANT, comedians Russell Brand, Sarge and Tammi Pescatelli are expected to attend and take the stage.

Nancy was diagnosed with Stage IV pancreatic cancer in December.

Nancy is a talented horticulturist who spends her free time working with special needs athletes helping them learn planting skills through the Special Olympics. She co-founded the Special Olympics' Pot-A-Plant program. Jay is a highly decorated palliative care nurse (hospice work for the grieving and dying) who was selected Nurse of the Year in 2005 (among other accolades).

Married for over 40 years, they have dedicated their lives to helping those in need. However, like many people, they were hit hard when the economy turned in 2008. Nancy lost a number of clients who could no longer afford the "luxury" of horticulture services. The hospital where Jay worked had to let the Department and Jay go, in light of a lack of grant money, and that palliative care is not a revenue producing form of medicine. Though they struggled they did what they do best, relied on each other and continued doing what they do best, assisting others less fortunate.

On December 20, 2011, (coincidentally Nancy's last birthday) she learned she has Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer. Jay, who has spent the better part of his career taking care of the grieving and dying, has now suddenly found himself caring for his most beloved patient. A fund was recently set up on Jay's behalf to help raise money to offset medical bills (not covered by insurance), living expenses, and future lost wages to assist them through this most difficult time.

Tickets are $50 for general admission and $125 for VIP.
