Group Seeks To Drop Suit Against LAUSD

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A group has asked a judge to dismiss its lawsuit challenging a race-based program for teachers in the Los Angeles Unified School District.

The lawsuit claimed the nation's second-largest district violated the state constitution by considering teachers' race when assigning them to a school.

The Pacific Legal Foundation said Wednesday it filed a request to withdraw the 2005 lawsuit, which was filed on behalf of the American Civil Rights Foundation.

The school board voted in March to discontinue the program and agreed not to reinstate it. A request for comment from the district Wednesday wasn't immediately returned.
