Group Looks To Restore Stolen Civil War Monuments From Sunnyside Cemetery
LONG BEACH (CBS) — Thieves made off with copper plaques from a Long Beach cemetery, but some veterans are helping to raise funds to replace the stolen items.
Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War want to also make sure the next memorial to the fallen will be a lasting one.
Sunnyside Cemetery (1095 E. Willow St., Long Beach, CA 90806) has nearly 200 Civil War veteran grave sites and manager Michael Miner said many history buffs make the location a must-see stop.
The copper plaques were first dedicated in 1935 and they remained untouched ... until now.
Miner says donations can be mailed to the cemetery.
